BEAT SURVIVOR, legendary lyricist and salty raconteuse FRAN LANDESMAN returns to Pirate Jenny's to kick off 2003 in grand style. Fran's humorous, lightly ironic touch, bittersweet humanism and flashes of penetrating insight characterise a lengthy career that began as co-writer of standards such as 'Spring Can Really Hang You Out The Most', and has seen her songs recorded by artists as diverse as Ella Fitzgerald and Chaka Khan.

Still versifying prolifically, in recent years she's struck up a songwriting partnership with pianist and film/TV composer SIMON WALLACE, and with the help of superb jazz singer SARAH MOULE, they deliver fascinating and diverting sets of new and old songs interspersed with Fran's narrations and reminiscences, poetry readings and the occasional gravelly-voiced interpretations of a song or two. Sarah's new album of Landesman/Wallace numbers, It's a nice thought (Linn) is currently enjoying great critical acclaim.

New to Pirate Jenny’s tonight is outstanding songstress DIVA EVE, aka Evelyne Brink, with a superb selection of original songs and a splash of Kurt Weill. Eve established her-self as a touring cabaret performer in her native Germany, France and Switzerland before branching into pop with several releases on Sony in Germany. Now she’s based in Brigh-ton and delivering punchy sets that showcase a strong voice, and has won acclaim for a one-woman show curiously entitled Vegetarian Cabaret.

Pirate Jenny's host and resident performer DES DE MOOR offers his own mini-cabaret set. Des brings his unique and dramatic performance to moving and witty originals as well as drawing on a selection of French, German and Dutch material in original translations.
