Anne Pigalle
Pirate Jenny's moves into its tenth year with two performers new to the
club.
ANNE PIGALLE is a bona-fide cult figure: originally from Paris, she moved to
London in the post-punk era, working with the likes of Michael Nyman and
Subway Sect and releasing records herself on the legendary ZTT label. During
the 1990s she was based in Los Angeles, working as a photographer and actor
with the likes of film director Donald Cammell.
Now back in Britain, she's
appearing at Pirate Jenny's in an intimate in-concert performance singing
her own material from albums like The No Title Amerotic and Spirit of
Ecstasy. The sultriness of the Left Bank, the down at heel surrealness of
Tom Waits, the wasted diva chic of Nico and the spirits of Dietrich and Piaf
combine in a unique and compelling performer.
Perfectly complementing Ms Pigalle are the sonorous tones of West
Midlands-based cyber caberettist THE TALLYMAN'S DARK OMNIBUS, combining
lyrical electronic backdrops with guitar and a sensibility derived from
Scott Walker and Jacques Brel. Expect haunting and atmospheric stories of a
fragile and fragmented world.
DES DE MOOR, one of Britain's leading chansonniers, and regular Pirate
Jenny's host, also participates with his regular mix of classic chanson and
salty original material in the company of pianist DAVID HARROD.
