Pirate Jenny welcomes two veteran misfits of the gay theatre and cabaret scene tonight, both of them dab hands with a crafted lyric or a fine tune and fonts of passion and wisdom. Mark Bunyan started performing his own songs and monologues at the piano over 25 years ago, establishing himself as the consummate gay cabaret activist in places as far flung as New York, San Francisco, Stockholm and Estonia. Canonised by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence as St Mark Of the Musical Tendency, he was also a founder of the Political Song Network and creator of two musicals.

Now the man Ned Sherrin called "one of the great comedians at the piano" is back on the circuit with a vengeance, with numerous radio appearances and theatre runs with a set of new songs and old classics. We're proud to welcome him back with his unique blend of wit, passion and flawless musicianship. Expect a number or two from his forthcoming musical Achilles in Heels.

"Somewhere between Lehrer and Brel with the arrogant insouciance of The Master" Sue Arnold, Observer.
"Comparisons to Coward are inevitable and apt...Classic and original" Scotsman

Peter Scott-Presland is best known under his previous name Eric Presland as a gay theatre and cabaret stalwart and passionate researcher and advocate of the works of such figures as Kurt Weill, Francis Poulenc and Boris Vian. His critically acclaimed shows such as Somebody Bin Usin' That Thing have documented in astonishing style the hidden history of sexual alternatives in English-language song, and he's turned out a number of fine songs himself.

Peter is no stranger to PJ's, having workshopped several shows on our stage, but this is his first appearance since our Drill Hall move and we're delighted to welcome him back for what promises to be a compelling and fascinating performance.

Aside from his reputation as an English chansonnier, Pirate Jenny's founder and host Des de Moor is an acclaimed translator and populariser of songs from mainland Europe. He's currently putting together a set of such material under the rubric Those Old and Evil Songs, so expect a selection tonight from Germany, the Low Countries, France and possibly elsewhere.
