Alexandra Yaron
Pirate Jenny's final season at the Vortex continues to present leading musical cabaret and chanson acts new to the club with February's show combining an established interpreter of classic European material with two fresh new English singer-songwriters. Globetrotting musical cabaret performer Alexandra Yaron has roots in Germany and Israel, studied in London and currently lives in Paris -- but she's known internationally for her authoritative interpretations of German theatre songs, Yiddish songs and chanson and gives lectures and masterclasses as well as live and radio performances. Her recent shows focus on the work of German/Jewish songwriters of the 1920s, particularly Mischa Spoliansky, Werner Richard Heymann and Kurt Weill, but she also ventures into the repertoires of Edith Piaf and Jacques Brel, all of them in interpretations by turns Sensuous, sensitive, gutsy, raunchy, romantic, satirical and tender interpretations. Tonight she is accompanied by Matthew Freeman at the piano. Singer-songwriting duo Vic Pratt and Stephen McConnachie went down a storm at the recent Irregular Records English Chanson season at the Drill Hall and we're pleased to present them at Pirate Jenny's. Expect mellow, intriguing and involving new English chanson inspired by music hall, melancholy, Ingmar Bergman, Lee Hazlewood...and Norman Wisdom! Master of ceremonies is as usual Des de Moor with his own selection of classic and original chansons, joined by maestro David Harrod at the piano. Back to the Pirate Jenny's page
