Des de Moor trio

Mark Bunyan started performing his own songs and monologues at the piano over 25 ago, establishing himself as the consummate gay cabaret activist in places as far flung as New York, San Francisco, Stockholm and Estonia. Canonised by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence as St Mark Of the Musical Tendency, he was also a founder of the Political Song Network and creator of two musicals.

Now the man Ned Sherrin called "one of the great comedians at the piano" is back with a vengeance; with appearances on Radio 4's Loose Ends and a run at London's Rosemary Branch Theatre under his belt, we're proud to welcome him to the Pirate Jenny stage for the first time with his unique blend of wit, passion and flawless musicianship.

"Somewhere between Lehrer and Brel with the arrogant insouciance of The Master" Sue Arnold, Observer.
"Comparisons to Coward are inevitable and apt...Classic and original" Scotsman

Founder and host of Pirate Jenny's Des de Moor, is a unique and powerful songwriter, translator interpreter and performer who draws on the European traditions of theatre song and cabaret to create his own unique style of salty English chanson. With the Vortex due to close for refurbishment this summer, Des is responding to popular requests tonight by extending his usual mini-cabaret set in the company of his regular trio, David Harrod on piano and Julia Doyle on double bass.

Des has been working hard at new material for his forthcoming album Testing Times, and tonight's set focusses on recent songs,

"One of the country's leading interpreters of the cabaret-chanson tradition" Guardian.
