Pirate Jenny's, London's unique monthly musical cabaret and chanson night, continues its run at new venue, the intimate Drill Hall 2 in the heart of Bloomsbury, with an evening of cutting edge English chanson.

Headlining the evening is Philip Jeays, one of the foremost British artists devel-oping new material in a chanson-influenced style. He draws on francophone greats like Jacques Brel and Claude Nougaro, but also counts the Sex Pistols and Tom Robinson among his influ-ences. His combination of acerbic wit, raw emotion and astonishing performance technique has made him a long-established audience favourite. Tonight he's presenting his songs with David Harrod on piano.

"Philip Jeays is a real find, just the sort of discovery you're always hoping to make and rarely do." Daily Telegraph
"Songs delivered with a sometimes frightening intensity and an often gleeful amount of bile." Financial Times
"A fresh fearless young singer songwriter whose artistic potential is scary...vulnerable, vitriolic and cruelly observant... Jeays in full, unforgiving flight is some sight." Herald

Pirate Jenny's founder and host Des de Moor is acknowledged as one of Britain's leading artists working in the cabaret-chanson tradition, a powerful and unique singer and performer with a wide repertoire of originals and innovative interpretations of European greats. Des continues his run of four different themed sets tonight with a suite of his own salty English chanson from his ongoing new album project Testing Times. David Harrod also provides piano honours.

New to Pirate Jenny's in tonight's special guest spot is award-winning poet, singer, songwriter and guitarist Steve Anthony. Steve's finely crafted, intelligent and passionate songs have been enthralling audiences on London's songwriters' circuit over the past few years, bringing traces of the songcraft of Scott Walker, Joni Mitchell and Randy Newman to original and affecting material. Steve has also edited two poetry anthologies for Oscars Press and his own poetry has appeared in numerous anthologies and magazines.
