with Des de Moor

Pirate Jenny is astonishingly proud to present tonight a long-overdue headline appearance by a true doyenne of musical cabaret in the British Isles, the marvellous Dillie Keane.

Dillie, originally from Dublin, is best known as a founder and leading light of sequin-spattered cabaret trio Fascinating Aïda, which started in a Hampstead wine bar in 1983 and has toured internationally and recorded extensively ever since. As a songwriter, she's made a host of sparkling and indelible contributions to the cabaret songbook, often in the company of fellow Aïda member Adèle Anderson, with whom she wrote songs to order for Radio 4's satirical Stop the Week for many years. She's also worked as an actor, playwright and newspaper columnist.

Over the past couple of years Dillie has given Aïda a rest and has been touring her own solo show Back With You, in the company of well-known musical cabaret accompanist Russell Churney, including international dates, a West End season and a sell-out run at Edinburgh. This show typically combines sharp and often hilarious humour with a wry, insightful, intelligent and occasionally even melancholy sideways glance at life from one of our most talented writers and performers.

Also making his Pirate Jenny début tonight is globetrotting singer Bremner Duthie, based in New York and Paris, whose show featuring the songs of Kurt Weill garnered four star reviews when it toured North America in 2000. Bremner has also worked in musical theatre, operas and in challenging new vocal repertoire, most recently in solo music theatre pieces Tongues and Savage/Love and in France with the Gershwins' Strike Up the Band. "His voice is like a big, dark, sultry room --full of emotive and expressive possibilities" - Georgia Straight.

Host and resident performer Des de Moor will also contribute his own mini-cabaret set in the company of Russell, bringing his unique and dramatic performance to moving and witty originals as well as drawing on a selection of French, German and Dutch material in original translations.
